“Heliocentric Thinking
If you have been surfing the web today, you’ve probably noticed the doodle of the day on Google. It represents the heliocentric model of our solar system. Today marks what would have been the 540th birthday of the great Renaissance astronomer and mathematician, Nicolaus Copernicus.
Copernicus is considered to be the father of modern astronomy and is credited for observing that the Sun is the center of our solar system and that the Earth rotates on an axis. The telescope was not around during his time, so Copernicus made his observations with his own eyes! It was not until fifty years later when Galileo came along, that the first telescope was used and his observations were confirmed.”
